Nico G.J. Breed brings a wealth of litigation experience to his practice at ATAC LAW. Throughout his legal career of 24 years in Canada, Nico has successfully represented numerous clients in the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Federal Court on a range of matters from insurance defence to immigration law. Nico is energized by complex cases that require ingenuity within the rules of law.
Nico has dedicated much of his recent practice as a lawyer to immigration law cases. In the recent past, he was part of the legal team that successfully argued in the Supreme Court of Canada, the highest court in Canada, confirming that Habeas Corpus is available to immigration detainees (Canada (PSEP) v. China, 2019 SCC 29)
In his immigration practice he works with individuals and business clients on every type of immigration application, including family class sponsorships, such as spousal, common-law, parental, and visitor and study permit applications. He also assists with Permanent Resident and Citizenship applications. Nico’s many years of experience as an immigration lawyer are invaluable for immigration clients, especially those with complex cases. Nico regularly appears before the Federal Court of Canada on immigration appeals and judicial reviews of immigration decisions. Nico regularly acts as the Designated Representative appointed by the Immigration and Refugee Board at detention review hearings, and represents clients at the immigration appeal division, refugee protection division, and refugee appeal division.
Nico is proud of his win record at the Federal Court, winning over ninety (90%) percent of his cases.
Nico’s construction law practice benefits from his experience advising on multi-million dollar retail mall and office development projects.
Nico also works with corporate clients on a broad range of business/corporate matters, including incorporation of companies, and buying and selling of businesses.
Nico enjoys the outdoors, especially multiple day backpacking hikes with his wife. He enjoys the snow and spends a lot of his free time snowboarding with his children.
